Want to empower Angelenos to join social justice coalitions so we can build progressive power and pass the policies we need to make Los Angeles a fair, flourishing place for everyone? Then you should join our team at LA Forward. LA Forward is a growing social justice organization with a local focus, and we’d love to work with you.
We are looking for a volunteer Summer Fellow to spend 10-40 hours per week growing our organization and building our power to get elected officials to do the right thing.
The Summer Fellow will learn about and be involved with all aspects of our group – from coalition meetings, legislative hearings, and fundraisers, to the “behind the scenes” work— like community organizing, digital activism, event setup, and donor development.
As a volunteer, you can pick and choose what you’re most interested in.
Here are some of the possibilities —
Attending and participating in events like coalition meetings, legislative hearings, fundraisers;
Researching policy topics;
Helping to plan and write our LA 101 Guide;
Documenting our events and actions by taking photos and videos;
Reaching out to members via email and phone to get them more involved in the work and see if they’d like to attend upcoming events or contribute in other ways;
Creating and curating social media content;
Drafting and/or proofread emails to our 10,000 person list with a focus on action alerts to get people to contact their elected officials and sharing relevant information and news once a week.
Assisting with planning and setup of house parties with our supporters;
Keeping in touch with our supporters by sending thank you and update letters.
The Summer Fellow will work in person each week with LA Forward’s full time Executive Director. The location is flexible – we have two offices, one in Koreatown and one in Santa Monica. There are coalition meetings we’d love for you to participate in — those generally take place near/in KTown and DTLA. There are occasional events on weekends like our community organizing meetings on the Second Sunday of every month (3-5pm).
As a nonprofit startup with no salaried staff, we regret to share that this is an unpaid, volunteer position. All expenses incurred in the course of volunteering will be reimbursed, however, as will working lunches.
Please send over a few paragraphs about why you’d be a great fit. Include a resume if you like or something else that shows how you’ll be able to hit the ground running. All questions and materials can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
Be sure to read up on our work before you get in touch.
